How the ARTAS System Works

  • The procedure begins with the donor area clipped short so the robotic imaging system can map each follicle at high resolution. The system's AI analyzes the angle, direction, depth, and grouping of each follicle in real time, selecting candidates for extraction based on spacing and density algorithms designed to preserve the natural appearance of the donor zone.
  • The robotic arm uses a dual-punch instrument — a sharp inner punch scores the follicle boundary, and a blunt outer punch rotates to dissect the follicle from surrounding tissue without cutting it. This blunt-dissection approach is designed to minimize mechanical trauma to the follicle during harvest, with no operator-fatigue drift across large-graft-count sessions. After harvesting, creation of recipient sites and transplantation of follicular units is done with careful attention to angle and spacing to produce a result that blends with the patient's native hair pattern.
